Transfers from a junior or community college?

College transfers are more common now than ever before. Many students are not sure about what they want to major in, some students don't have high school grades that are good enough to get into the four-year college they want to attend. For these reasons, and many more, thousands of students are attending community colleges.

Parents need to understand that there are ways to ensure that their student can transfer to a four year program. If the curriculum is structured correctly and grades are maintained, a successful transfer can be made.

However, without proper planning for the transfer, a lot of time and money can be spent on curriculum that will not be accepted at a larger college. With correct planning, a transfer can be effected that will save considerable funds.

Consult with your community college counselor before classes begin. Know what the four-year college will accept as transferable classes. Knowing what classes can be transferred can save the cost of taking classes that will not transfer (this can be very costly). Also, remember that transferable courses may differ greatly from in-state to out-of-state schools.

There are many facets to this strategy and The College Planner hopes that some variation of this idea can save you in your quest to pay for college.

Details of this type of strategy and others are covered in The College Planner Digest. This important monthly publication is a must for if you are serious about gaining knowledge and staying informed about the various aspects of preparing you child for college.
